"Mama Said" by the Shirelles

From the top 10 to Madison Avenue.

Mama never said that many of my favorite songs from 1960s would serve as the soundtrack for TV commercials.

Written by Luther Dixon, who also penned "Tonight's the Night", the Shirelles "Mama Said" debuted at #78 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending April 23, 1961. It spent 11 weeks on the chart, 4 of them in the top 10, and was the group's 3rd top 10 hit in a row,  following "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" and "Dedicated to the One I Love".  Pretty good run, eh?

The song's complete run: 78, 42, 18, 14, 8, 6, 4, 4, 12, 22, 53.
